Alceu Valenca – Molhado del Suor (1974 Brazil). An album that definitely is cut from the same cloth as other Brazilian acts from Recife such as Flaviola e o Bando do Sol, Satwa, Lula Cortes e Ze Remalho and especially Marconi Notaro. There’s a certain on-the-edge folk vibe going on, with non-stop singing in Portuguese, acoustic strumming, fuzz guitar accents, wood flutes, etc… You can sense the same angst that one gets from the German politrock movement. Political beach music.

Might of Coincidence – Announcing the Birth Of (1971 Switzerland). Another one of those albums I had in the 90s, but was just too expensive to hold onto considering the overall quality. This revisit represents my first listen of it in well over 10 years. MoC play a typical acid folk prog in the trippy German tradition similar to Emtidi’s “Saat” or especially Amon Duul’s “Paradieswarts Duul”. Tranced female/male vocals over tablas, wood flute and electric/acoustic guitar. Most of the tracks sound similar, except the last one which is considerably more cosmic and experimental. A whole album of that I think would’ve resulted in a better experience. Still, a good record worth checking out.
