Sunday – s/t. 1972.
Zior – Every Inch a Man. 1972.
Horse – s/t. 1970.
Sunday were one of many UK bands who went to Germany to get an album deal. And like Nektar and Diabolus before them, they secured a release on the Bellaphon label. Musically, a standard mix of organ rock, hard rock and progressive. Good record and an even better cover that would make a nice choice for a mini-LP from Japan. Zior is one more band who found an album with a German only release. This despite their debut being released locally on the Nepentha label. Zior played a darker and meaner hard rock than most, and weren’t quite as blues influenced, at least as far as “One Inch a Man†goes (I have yet to hear the debut, but have it here somewhere). And is it just me, or does the vocalist like a guttural Rob Halford? Judas Priest “Rocka Rolla†fans may want to investigate. Horse were a straight ahead hard rock that starts out with a roar and ends with a whinny. A one trick pony as far as I can tell. We’re in metaphor hell here… But definitely worth hearing, if only for the first two barnburner tracks.
