BBC in Concert 1971 (DVD)

This rather long group of 30 to 40 minute sets is a rather nice comparison and contrast of three singer/songwriters, although for my ears, watching them all in a row, even while multitasking, was a bit too much. Taylor’s probably of least interest to my ears, this presents him delivering the Beatles hit that brought him almost as much popularity and a number of other, rather dull folk tunes. It’s all a bit user friendly in the long run and Cat Stevens set was a welcome relief, at least I knew the material here and he had a second musician backing him up on vocals and guitar. Cat sounds about what he did on the albums of the time, Teaser and Tillerman stuff for the most part, it’s a very nice document indeed, especially with the digital source. Neil Young is in pretty good form as well, although his songs aren’t as much to my taste, I’d say this is about as enjoyable as he gets for me. I recognized most of the material from other recent listens and his rapport with the audience is here as well. A pretty good showing on all accounts overall.
